We have spent so much in the past month that my head is spinning. I know we needed to spend money on that fence but that is not the half of it, literally. This month, as of this day, we've spent a combined $9,165 through my accounts. That includes all my normal spending plus what my girlfriend has put on her card. We do not take home $100k a year! We can't exactly sustain that sort of spending.
OK, we don't buy a new fence every month and this month actually has a lot of "special" event spending. For example, my girlfriend is paying for two of her friends to fly down and visit her in March. She has been planning this for months now and this month she bought both the tickets because the price was good. Her parents also just moved down here and then her brother came down to visit. They all went to Disney and those tickets went on her card. They gave her the cash for the tickets but it still shows up on my spending. That's $1,200 on vacation and travel just this month!
They also have been going out to eat a lot. And we ate at Disney too. Somehow, our food spending this month is approaching $900! And I know she's going to Universal today with her family and will eat there too. Now, this isn't "my" problem because she pays me for everything on her card. In fact, she's given me the majority of the money I need to pay off these expenses. But it still shows up on my budget in mint and it causes me anxiety because it's way out of the ordinary.
So yeah, I am feeling the need to just not spend anything until I feel more in control of things. It isn't even like things are that out of control. The spending from this month is almost all paid off. There is about 1.5k still to be paid off on the credit cards but the money is there for when I send the payments.
I haven't been able to pay down the savings loan enough because my girlfriend has been focusing her extra money at all these expenses. That gets on my nerves but things will improve.
Wow that's a lot of spending! Hopefully February is slower for you.
